Our corridor management studies result in recommended land use and transportation strategies that comprehensively address present and future transportation and development needs. We develop corridor management studies that have a long-term focus, addressing general land use and transportation strategies over a 20-year or greater time period.
Types of strategies included are:
- Transportation improvements;
- Land use strategies such as zoning, land conservation, or access management;
- Landscaping, and preservation of right-of-way;
- Management tools and processes such as development guidelines, design guidelines, and plan oversight and monitoring; and
- Mechanisms for inter-jurisdictional cooperation.
A corridor management plan provides a mix of strategies that are mutually reinforcing and consistent with an agreed-upon vision for the corridor. It provides a set of well-defined, prioritized actions, and defines clear responsibilities to carry the strategies forward into implementation.
Our corridor management plans have created development guidelines for a South Florida community that faced a road widening from two to six lanes. By establishing post-construction development guidelines, the town successfully improved its commercial tax base along the expanded roadway while enhancing community esthetics.
In another instance, we helped two cities reach mutually agreeable development guidelines along a corridor that bridged the two municipal boundaries.
